Preview: An in-depth study of the fruits of the spirit. This is the fifth lesson in a thirteen-part series on this subject.

Scripture Reading: Hebrews 6:1-15.

Memory Verse: Galatians 5:22.

1. Is long-suffering essential to our salvation according to the foregoing Scriptures?
Note: God has promised us salvation through Jesus Christ. He has made the promise plain and secure. Abraham was a wonderful example of patience and long-suffering. We should carefully and prayerfully study his example.
2. Was Abraham long-suffering and patient to the end even though he did not live to see God’s promise fulfilled? Hebrews 11:8-10, Hebrews 11:13 & Hebrews 11:16.
3. What must we do if we are to receive the reward of eternal life? Matthew 10:16-22 & James 1:12.
4. How important is a spirit of patience and long-suffering in the workplace? I Thessalonians 5:12-15.
5. Must we show a spirit of long-suffering and patience in the home? I Peter 3:1-4, I Peter 3:7, Ephesians 5:21-22 & Ephesians 5:25.
Note: Long-suffering means patient, suffering without complaining, reliable, and enduring. It is important that Christians exercise these characteristics in the Church, workplace, and in all public contacts, but the first and most important place to exercise this godly attribute is at home. Unfortunately, the home quite often is the first point of offence; the family becomes the dumping ground for the unresolved frustrations of life. This produces fruits of resentment and bitterness, which often results in broken homes and lost souls.
6. What should a Christian’s attitude be at home? Colossians 3:1-3, Colossians 3:12-14 & Colossians 3:18-22.
7. What kind of attitude should a Christian have toward those who do them wrong? Romans 12:9, Romans 12:14 & Romans 12:17-21.
8. How will the spirit of long-suffering affect the Church? Colossians 1:3-5, Colossians 1:9-14 & Ephesians 4:1-3.
9. Is long-suffering essential for those who are called to minister? II Corinthians 6:1-6, II Timothy 2:24-25 & II Timothy 4:1-5.
10. Who is our supreme source and example of long-suffering? Psalm 86:15, I Peter 2:19-24 & II Peter 3:9.
11. What are we instructed to do knowing these things? II Peter 3:10, II Peter 3:17-18 & I Peter 4:1.
Note: God is loving and long-suffering, not willing that any be lost, but in the Day of Judgment only those who have patiently endured to the end will be saved.
