Preview: A study of how, why, and when we should witness for God. This is the second part of a thirteen-part series of lessons on this subject.
Pre-reading: Acts 6:1-15 & Acts 7:1-60.
Scripture Reading: I Peter 2:1-11.
Memory Verse: Hebrews 13:15.
1. Must we conclude from the foregoing Scriptures that those who believe that Jesus is precious will desire to praise and declare Him to others? Discuss.
2. How are we called and chosen? Acts 13:1-3.
3. What are all the members of the Body of Christ to be? I Corinthians 12:12-14, I Corinthians 12:27-31.
Note: No longer is the responsibility of preaching, teaching, and counseling only required of the priesthood. Each member of the Body is called to share in the work, but the Holy Spirit must be directing. There are different methods of witnessing but the message is always the same. Truth does not change.
4. Why must we witness to all nations? Acts 10:34-35.
5. What is the message of hope that must go to all the world? Acts 10:36, Acts 10:42-43.
6. Must the message and the messenger be anointed and directed by the Holy Spirit to be effective? Why or why not? Acts 10:37-41, John 7:14-18.
Note: A Christian’s witness is not to make himself look and sound good, but must be for the purpose of declaring the Gospel.
7. Whose message did Jesus teach, His own or was it God’s message? John 14:8-11.
8. Must our message also be directed and inspired by the same Spirit? Discuss. John 14:12, John 14:15-18, John 14:26.
Note: Christian witnessing is not sharing opinions or personal feelings with the world. It must be God’s message of truth, declared by the Word, and revealed to the witness by the Holy Spirit that lives in him.
9. How did Paul explain his calling and message? II Corinthians 4:1-2, II Corinthians 4:5-7.
10. Did the angels and the prophets of old desire to know the truths that God is revealing to His Church today? Why or why not? I Peter 1:3-5, I Peter 1:9-13.
Note: Even though the prophets foretold the coming of our Savior and the plan of salvation, they could not fully comprehend. Today, through the power and anointing of the Holy Spirit, we can understand. Let us share this beautiful secret with joy and thanksgiving.
