Preview: Part two of a two-part lesson on the effect of eating in our lives.
Scripture Reading: I Corinthians 10:20-31.
Memory Verse: I Corinthians 10:24.
1. Are we to please the Lord in our eating? I Corinthians 10:31.
2. What did the Apostle Paul acknowledge that should be practiced by all? I Corinthians 9:25.
3. What is said of the glutton? Proverbs 23:21.
4. Of what did they accuse our Savior? Matthew 11:19.
5. Of what did the Lord warn us? Luke 21:34.
6. What did Jesus say was the trouble when the disciples were unable to rebuke the evil spirit? Matthew 17:19-20.
7. What was the solution to their problem? Matthew 17:21.
8. Was Jesus our example of prayer and fasting? Matthew 4:1-2.
9. What does He expect His followers to do? Luke 5:33-35.
10. How did Jesus instruct us to fast? Matthew 6:16-18.
Note: It does not appear by our Savior’s practice, or any commands that He gave to His disciples, that He instituted any particular time to fast. It is, however, inferred from such statements as those above that He expected His followers to do so. Jesus knew that sincere prayer and fasting would have an effect in the lives of His followers. He showed how a stronger faith can be developed and prayer answered through fasting. It is good for us to sometimes leave food alone and abstain. As it is written, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.”
11. Should we take time to pray and thank the Lord for what He supplies? Matthew 6:11 & Philippians 4:6.
12. Why is it important to pray before we eat? I Timothy 4:5.
Note: The Lord requires that we glorify Him in our eating. So let us never get so involved in our eating that we neglect to take time out to pray and be thankful.
