A Great Cloud of Witnesses - Our Place: Part 13 of 13

Preview: Faith heroes. This is the thirteenth part of a thirteen-part series of lessons on this subject.

Scripture Reading: Hebrews 11:1-16.

Memory Verse: Hebrews 3:13.

1. Why were these witnesses called faithful according to the foregoing Scripture Reading? What will destroy our witness or testimony according to the foregoing Memory Verse?
Note: Only faith in the precious promises of God will enable us to come to Him just as we are. Doubt and unbelief will separate us from Him. In the past twelve lessons, we have examined the lives of some of those who died in the faith and left their mark in the halls of spiritual fame. Even in death, their record stands today as a great witness to encourage us not to look at our position in life or our circumstances, but to look to Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith. Most of those mentioned in Hebrews 11 were ordinary men and women. Some who, from human reasoning, would have been dismissed as unworthy, but they all believed and obeyed God and were declared righteous.
2. Why does our faith in God keep us having hard trials? Hebrews 11:32-37.
3. Who did Paul exhort us to consider and follow? Hebrews 12:1-4.
4. Why is it beneficial to suffer hard trials? Hebrews 12:5-8, Hebrews 12:11.
Note: A godly life has never been an easy road. Satan is always seeking to devour God’s people. Jesus said that unless we daily take the cross and follow Him, we cannot be His disciples. We must die daily to self and live for God.
5. Do we have an even greater reason today to be faithful than those saints of old? Why? Hebrews 11:37-40.
6. Why do we have a more sure word of prophecy? Hebrews 12:18-24, II Peter 1:19.
Note: We are without excuse, even history declares that the promise (Jesus) has already come and died for our sins. By faith, we must believe this if we hope to enter that city which they sought.
7. How must we receive and serve Him? Hebrews 12:28-29.
8. How did James instruct us to live? James 1:19-21.
Note: No wonder the Devil is seeking to ban the Word of God from our schools, homes, and all government places. Even many of our churches are teaching half truths.
9. Is it sufficient just to hear the Word? What else do we need? James 1:22-25.
10. Does it help keep us close to God when we are busy witnessing to and caring for the needs of our fellowman? Why not? James 1:26-27, James 2:1, James 2:5-9.
Note: The poor and oppressed need to see Christ in us as we minister to their needs. Let us follow the example of Jesus, who came to seek and save the lost. As a light to the world, has your flame grown dim? As salt of the earth, have you lost your saltiness? Let us draw nigh to God and He will be there to make us witnesses to others.\
