Abiding in the Vine- God's Plan for Righteous Fellowship: Part 2 of 13

Preview: This is the second part of a thirteen-part series of lessons on this subject.

Scripture Reading: Genesis 4:1-13.

Memory Verse: Genesis 4:16.

1. Was Abel a righteous branch according to the foregoing Scriptures? Discuss.
2. Who did God raise up after Satan (through Cain) slew God’s branch of righteousness? Genesis 4:25-26.
Note: God created man to fellowship with Him through holiness. Adam, Eve, and Cain were dis-fellowshipped because of their disobedience. Hate and envy destroyed righteous Abel, but God, in His mercy, raised up another branch of righteousness through Seth, and again, man began to fellowship with God our righteousness. Satan had failed again. God cannot be defeated.
3. Why does a sense of guilt and fear come with sin? Genesis 3:7-10, Genesis 3:21-24.
4. What do the other Scriptures say about the connection of guilt and nakedness to sin? Ezekiel 23:29, Ezekiel 23:35, Revelation 3:17-18.
Note: Sin, guilt, and shame that are not dealt with will always separate mankind from an open, honest relationship with his Holy Creator. Medical science today recognizes that fear and guilt is responsible for much of our physical and mental sickness. Only the Word of God has the prescription for healing.
5. What kind of branch was Enoch (seventh generation from Adam)? Genesis 5:19-24, Jude 1:14-16.
6. What happened to man as the population began to increase? Genesis 6:1-7.
7. Who was the one righteous branch among the shambles? Genesis 6:8, Genesis 6:12-13.
Note: Noah was the tenth generation from Adam and already he alone was the only righteous branch attached to God, the vine and source of life. We are here today because this one man was found faithful. Praise the Lord for Noah’s obedience.
8. How did Noah’s obedience show honor to God after the flood? Genesis 8:18-20.
Note: There is no record that God had instructed Noah to bring a burnt offering, but out of gratitude and love for God, he did so. Also, note that only clean animals and birds were offered. This was long before the dietary laws were given to Moses. Think on this!
9. How did God react to Noah’s worship of Him? Genesis 8:21-22, Genesis 9:1-7.
10. What important commission did God give Noah and his sons? Genesis 9:1-3, Genesis 9:7.
Note: God was still looking for a holy, righteous people with whom He could have fellowship. The opportunity continues through Noah and his sons.
