Ye Are the Light of the World

Preview: “The Light” according to Jesus is His Word, His Commandments, and the saints that spread this light for all to see. Our job on this earth is to understand it and then go out to shine for all to see.


Scripture Reading: Matthew 5:15-20.

Memory Verse: Matthew 5:14.

1. What were the words of Jesus to those that were in darkness? Matthew 4:16.
2. What was the message that Jesus delivered? Matthew 4:17.
3. How far reaching was the light of Jesus? John 8:12.
4. Will there be any occasion for stumbling to them who have the light of Jesus? Explain. John 11:9.
5. What will happen to those who do not have the light? John 11:10.
6. How long will the light remain? John 9:5, John 12:35.
7. How should we regard the light of Jesus? John 12:36.
Note: Let us not forget we can be a light to the world if we will accept and follow the light ourselves. We are to be a reflection of Jesus.
8. To what is the Church of God compared in this world? Matthew 5:14.
Note: A city is not one person. A city is made up of a large body of people, like the Church, it is not one member but many. This body of people is to be a light to the world.
9. Is it possible to cover and to hide our light from the world? Discuss. Matthew 5:15.
10. Should we allow our light (Bible knowledge) to be known to men? How will we profit by so doing? Matthew 5:16.
11. What will this light do to those that reject it? John 3:18-19.
12. Will those that hate the light come to it? John 3:20.
13. Will those that do righteousness come to the light? Why or why not? John 3:21.
14. Were men willing to accept the light when Jesus came? Discuss. John 5:35.
15. For whom did Paul claim the light? Romans 2:17-19.
16. What will happen with the light when the Lord comes? I Corinthians 4:5.
17. What can the Devil do with this light? II Corinthians 11:14.
Note: It is possible for the Devil to imitate the light and he will do so to deceive, if possible, the children of God. If the children of God can walk, imitate, and follow the light of Jesus, it should be no strange thing but rather we should expect that the Devil can imitate Christ.
18. Should His children walk in the light of Christ? Why? Ephesians 5:8.
19. How many of God’s children are the light of the world? I Thessalonians 5:5.
20. What can the enemies do to this light? I Timothy 6:16.
Note: Let us be a sunbeam for Jesus. Let our light shine that men may see our good works. Let us not forget there is more than one kind of light.
