God's Laws Pertaining to Business and Economics

Preview: This lesson is a guide to the laws of the Bible. Since the Bible is the foundation of the legal system of all civilized nations, it is very important that matters concerning the laws be understood.


Scripture Reading: Leviticus 19:32-37.

Memory Verse: Proverbs 11:1.

1. Should God’s people be as honest in business with strangers as they are to members of their faith according to the foregoing Scripture Reading and Memory Verse? Discuss. 
2. What is said about a just weight in business? Deuteronomy 25:13-15.
3. How does God regard those who are dishonest in business? Deuteronomy 25:16.
4. Consider the Prophet Samuel’s honesty in business dealings. I Samuel 12:1-5.
5. Why was this so important? Explain. I Samuel 12:6-7, I Samuel 12:14-15, I Samuel 12:19-25.
Note: If his record had not been above reproach, the people would not have listened to his testimony.
6. What example do we have of God’s judgment against dishonesty? Joshua 7:11-13, Joshua 7:15.
Note: God will not tolerate dishonest practices among His people.
7. What laws were given concerning borrowing and lending? Exodus 22:14-15, Exodus 22:25, Deuteronomy 15:1-8, Deuteronomy 15:11.
8. What was said about honest payment of wages? Leviticus 19:13, Deuteronomy 24:14-15, Jeremiah 22:13.
9. Should a workman be content with his wages? Luke 3:14.
Note: It is just as important to pay fair and honest wages to non-Christians as to Christians. It is also commanded that the people of God be content with their wages. (Luke 3:14.)
10. What special provisions were commanded for the poor and strangers? Leviticus 19:9-15, Deuteronomy 24:19-21, Leviticus 25:25, Leviticus 25:35-39.
11. What laws regulated pledges or mortgages of personal properties? Exodus 22:26-27, Deuteronomy 24:6, Deuteronomy 24:10-13.
12. Consider the laws given concerning God’s economics. Numbers 18:23-24, Leviticus 27:30-31, Malachi 3:8-12.
Note: The tithes are holy unto God. It is to be brought to the storehouse (Church Headquarters). The priest or ministers and workers are to be paid from it. There is a blessing promised if we obey this law and a curse if we do not. If we as a nation followed these laws in our dealings with God and man we would not need prisons and welfare programs, and God would bless us beyond belief.
