Jesus' Attitude Toward His Death

Preview: A Biblical view of Jesus’ perspective on His own death.


Scripture Reading: John 10:7-15.

Memory Verses: Hebrews 13:20-21.

1. Do we find from the foregoing Scripture Reading and Memory Verses that a good shepherd is willing to die for the good of his sheep?
2. Did Jesus volunteer to die for us or was He forced to do so? John 10:17-18.
Note: While God the Father was pleased that Jesus was willing to die for the Church, He did not compel Him to; just as He does not force us to dedicate our life to His service, but He desires that we do so.
3. How did Jesus try to prepare the disciples for His death? Matthew 17:22-23.
4. Did they understand what He said when Jesus plainly told them that He was going to be put to death? Matthew 20:17-22 & Mark 10:32-40.
Note: They had ears to hear, but apparently did not understand!
5. Did Jesus know that He must die at Passover? What did He say? Matthew 26:2-16.
6. Did He know that the religious leaders and the Gentiles would be responsible for His crucifixion? Discuss. Luke 9:20-22, Mark 14:55-61 & Matthew 20:18-19.
Note: The Jewish priests and religious followers desired that Jesus die, but He was delivered to the Roman soldiers for the execution.
7. Did Jesus realize the horror that awaited Him? Was He afraid? Matthew 26:24, Matthew 26:39 & Luke 22:39-45.
8. What was His humble testimony concerning the awful sacrifice? John 18:1-12.
9. Did Jesus realize that His enemies had no power to harm Him unless God allowed it? John 19:4-11.
10. Could Jesus have changed His mind at any point in time? Explain. Matthew 26:44-56.
Note: When we are born again we become Sons of God. We have the same assurance that God is able to keep us at all times even through persecution and death. As He was faithful to His high calling, let us also be faithful to ours.
