Note: When David was fleeing through the wilderness, pursued by his son, he was being prepared to become the sweet singer of Israel. Even failures, if taken rightly, may become stepping stones to higher ground.

4. What should God’s people expect to face? Matthew 10:17-22, Matthew 10:26-28.

6. Why was this to be? Daniel 11:35.

8. What description does Paul give of the sufferings endured by some of God’s people in former ages? Hebrews 11:35-38.
9. How many of those who live godly lives in Christ does Paul say will suffer persecutions? II Timothy 3:11-12.
10. Does God willingly afflict the children of men? Why or why not? Lamentations 3:31-33.
11. Why then does God permit the chastening rod to fall? Hebrews 12:10.
12. For what did Christ say He had prayed in reference to Peter’s coming sore trial? Luke 22:31-32.
13. What promise is made to those who endure the trials and temptations of this life? James 1:12.
Note: Our sorrows do not spring out of the ground. God does not afflict willingly nor grieve the children of men. When He permits trials and afflictions, it is for our benefit so that we might be partakers of His Holiness.
