Preview: How to be a true Christian.

Scripture Reading: II John 1:1-11.

Memory Verse: Jude 1:3.

1. What are some of the requirements in the foregoing Scriptures for staying close to Christ?
2. What must we have in order to walk with Christ? I John 1:4-7, John 12:46, Psalm 27:1.
Note: Until we receive Christ as our Lord and Savior we walk in spiritual darkness and have poor judgment about where we are going. Those who willfully practice sin prefer darkness to light because their deeds are evil. They shut their eyes and ears to truth.
3. How did Jesus explain the difference between spiritual light and spiritual darkness? John 3:19-21.
4. Did Israel (God’s chosen people) all accept Jesus as their Lord and King when He came to them? Discuss. John 1:6-13.
5. What is promised to those who will keep their minds on Christ? Isaiah 26:2-4, Matthew 11:28-30.
6. Where must Christians look for power and strength to stand firm for the Lord? I Corinthians 16:13-14, Joshua 1:9.
7. How can we receive God’s saving power and strength if we don’t realize our inability to stand alone? II Corinthians 12:7, II Corinthians 12:9-10, Ephesians 6:10-17, & Philippians 4:11, Philippians 4:13.
Note: All too often man tries to live a spiritual life on his own strength and ability. He is sure to fail. Only by crucifying our own ways and intellect can we depend on the direction and strength of the Holy Spirit. A true Christian is under God’s control and strength. Proverbs 3:5-7.
8. Why must we be bold in witnessing to others in order to stay close to Christ? Mark 8:38, Luke 12:8-9, Romans 1:16.
9. What will it cause us to do if we are ashamed of the Gospel of Christ? John 12:42-43.
10. Who will we be judged by if we refuse to receive spiritual light and walk in it? John 12:46-50.
11. What are we instructed to do in order to abide in Christ? Romans 12:1-3, Romans 12:16-21.
Note: When we are ashamed to witness to others, if we are unwilling to obey the knowledge that the light of the Gospel has revealed to us, then we have not had our minds transformed from self-serving to serving God. It will be impossible to stay close to Christ.
