Preview: This lesson covers what heavenly treasure is, how we gain it, and why it’s important to the spiritual growth of Christians.

Scripture Reading: Matthew 5:1-12.

Memory Verse: Galatians 5:13.

1. What is heavenly treasure? Jeremiah 17:10, Colossians 3:23-24, Hebrews 11:6.

Note: Heavenly treasure is a reward from the Lord for our faithfulness and generosity on earth towards our fellow man. Love is the embodiment of the Lord and therefore we are being faithful to Him when we show genuine love and connection to other people.

2. Can heavenly treasure be stolen, destroyed, or taken away? Why or why not? Matthew 6:19-20, I Peter 1:3-5.

3. In contrast to the previous verses, how is heavenly treasure different from earthly treasure? James 5:3.

4. How does one gain heavenly treasure? Matthew 19:21, Luke 12:33, Luke 18:22, Matthew 6:33, Luke 6:35.

5. What does treasure say about your character? Matthew 6:21.

6. Who provides the treasure in heaven and why? Hebrews 6:10, I Corinthians 3:8, Revelation 22:12, Proverbs 19:17.

7. How can one lose their reward? II John 1:7-8, I Timothy 6:9.

Note: As Christians, we need to make sure that we are following God’s truth and not the “truth” of man. There are people out there that seek to harm and deceive in the name of the devil to make sure that we do not receive treasure in heaven, but instead fall into the devil’s grasp. The devil seeks to destroy God’s children by making the things of this world seem more important than the things to come in heaven. Do not be deceived by money and selfish desires.

8. Are your good deeds meant for self-edification? Why or why not? Matthew 6:1-4.

9. Why is heavenly treasure worth gaining? Romans 8:18, I Timothy 6:7.

10. Can we love earthly treasure as much as God? Why or why not? Matthew 6:22-24.
